This is a common gynaecological disorder experienced by women. A majority of women, at one point in life, would have experienced cervicitis, at least once. Cervicitis is the inflammation, due to infection, of cervix, the lower part of the uterus, which extends to the vaginal canal. Infection of the cervix is commonly caused by the insertion of any foreign material, such as a diaphragm, cervical cap, spermicides, tampons, contraceptives, condoms, etc., into the vagina. Latex allergies can also cause cervicitis.

The first symptom of this condition is vaginal discharge, which increases normally during the menstrual period. Other symptoms include bleeding, itching or irritation of the external genitals, burning sensation during urination, pain during intercourse and sometimes lower back pain. Changathu has an effective ayurvedic treatment regimen for cervicitis. The medicines include S.N.N Kashayam, Thripathyadi ghritham, Kadaleerasayanam, etc.
