Changethu Ayurveda has a long and successful tradition in Ayurveda dated back to the 18th century, when the head of the Changethu family, Kandararu, initiated his practice in Ayurveda under Vaidya Nambi, who belonged to the Alathiyur family of Ashtavaidyas. Till 19th Century, Vaidyas of the family were known as Kalloorkattu Vaidyas. Since they had settled down near the banks of river Achankovil, Vaidya Narayana Kuruppu re-named the family to Changethu.
The family has also preserved rare ancient palm-leaf manuscripts which describes various diseases, their treatment as well as the medicinal preparations. ‘Mathrakettu’, a few critical care medicine combinations are one of the key differentiators from other Vaidyasalas in the country. Each generation in the Changethu family has seen exceptionally skilled Vaidyas like Ayyappan Pillai, Narayana Kurup, Govinda Pillai and Vaidyakalanidhi Bhaskaran Nair contributing in the healing dogma of Ayurveda.
